Use this sell wire FAQ to prepare your lot

We buy reusable wire and cable as product for resale and reuse, not as scrap. That includes unused reels, project leftovers, cancelled-order material, distributor and plant overstock, and used cable that remains suitable for reuse. Keep wire intact while you gather the details needed for review.

Start with the wire and cable we buy, then separate your lot by type, size and approximate length. These surplus wire questions address common selling decisions, including what to photograph and when to arrange transportation.

Prepare photos before requesting a Texas wire offer

Photograph the whole lot, reel tags, jacket print legends and cut ends. Include conductor size, insulation designation, voltage rating and footage when available. Our guide to photographing wire for an offer explains how to make those details readable.

Send the photos and your inventory list or footage estimate through Get an Offer, call 951-403-5738, or email industrial832@gmail.com. We review the material and make a written offer before pickup; payment method and timing are also confirmed in writing before pickup.

Plan your Texas pickup or Houston drop-off

We arrange pickup anywhere in Texas, as described in our Texas service area. Tell us where the wire is stored, how it is packaged and what access restrictions apply so those details can be discussed before scheduling.

You can also drop off by appointment at 6402 McGrew St, Houston, TX 77087, in southeast Houston near I-45 and Loop 610. Call first rather than arriving with a load. Review the Texas wire seller paperwork guide before gathering ownership records for your sale.

All questions

What kinds of surplus electrical wire do you buy?

We buy reusable surplus electrical wire and cable, including new and unused full reels, partial reels, boxed coils and cut lengths. Project leftovers, cancelled orders, distributor inventory and plant overstock can all be submitted for review. Used cable can also qualify when it remains reusable. Send identifying details rather than assuming every copper or aluminum cable will be suitable.

Is there a minimum quantity of wire I can sell?

We do not set a universal minimum on the site. Send the wire type, conductor size, estimated footage, packaging and location so we can review your particular lot. A reel count alone does not describe the material: two reels can hold very different lengths and sizes. Tell us about the complete lot, including smaller coils or cut lengths stored separately.

How do you determine what surplus wire is worth?

We review the material as reusable product, considering its identification, conductor size, insulation type, ratings, condition and usable length. Packaging and the completeness of your inventory information also help us understand what you have. There is no single price that fits every reel. See what affects surplus cable value for details to include when requesting an offer.

Is reusable wire worth more than scrap copper?

Reusable wire is usually worth more sold as product than sold as scrap by weight because the buyer is paying for usable wire, not just its metal content. That does not mean every old cable qualifies for reuse. Identification, condition and usable lengths matter. Keep insulation and tags intact while the lot is being reviewed rather than stripping material first.

When and how will I get paid?

Payment method and timing are confirmed in writing before pickup. We also make a written offer before pickup, so you can review the terms before releasing the material. Do not assume a particular payment method or schedule applies to every transaction. Ask any payment questions while reviewing the written terms, and make sure your business understands those terms before collection is arranged.

Do you pick up surplus wire anywhere in Texas?

Yes. We arrange pickup anywhere in Texas. Include the pickup address, inventory details and photos when you submit the lot, and describe access issues such as gates, restricted receiving hours or wire stored inside a building. Pickup arrangements are discussed for the specific material and location. We review the lot and provide a written offer before pickup rather than promising collection from a description alone.

Can I drop off wire at your Houston location?

Yes, sellers can drop off by appointment at 6402 McGrew St, Houston, TX 77087. Call 951-403-5738 first so we can review the material and arrange the visit. Our location is in southeast Houston near I-45 and Loop 610. Do not load up and arrive without calling; discuss the lot, written terms and required ownership paperwork before making the trip.

What photos should I send for a wire offer?

Send clear photos of the whole lot, each different reel tag, the jacket print legend and accessible cut ends. Include packaging condition and any visible damage rather than photographing only the cleanest portion. Match photos to your inventory list when several sizes look alike. If tags are faded, photograph readable jacket markings so we can identify the cable from more than one source.

What information do you need from a reel tag?

Capture the manufacturer, wire or cable designation, conductor size, conductor count, voltage rating and listed footage when those details appear on the tag. Include the entire tag rather than cropping out numbers you do not recognize. A tag's original footage may not equal the remaining length on an opened reel. Our wire reel tag guide helps you identify useful fields.

Do you buy partial reels of electrical wire?

Yes. Partial reels are among the reusable surplus materials we review. Send the reel tag, jacket markings and your best estimate of the remaining footage, clearly labeled as an estimate. Explain whether the reel contains one continuous length or multiple pieces. A partially used reel does not automatically become scrap, but its remaining usable length and condition need to be understood.

Can I sell cut lengths and boxed coils?

Yes, we review cut lengths and boxed coils as well as reels. List each length separately when possible, along with its conductor size, type and condition. Do not combine several short pieces into a total that could be mistaken for one continuous run. Keep matching labels with the material and photograph the ends and jacket markings so we can assess the actual pieces available.

Do you buy used or decommissioned cable?

We buy used cable that is still in reusable condition, including material such as decommissioned power and battery cables with lugs or re-reeled cable. Describe its previous use and show the jacket, ends, terminations and any damage. Used does not automatically mean scrap, but it also does not establish suitability for reuse. Review our information on selling used electrical wire before submitting the lot.

What should I do with unused wire after a project closes?

Keep unused wire dry, identified and separated by type and size while you prepare an inventory. Preserve tags, cartons and closeout records, and avoid cutting continuous lengths merely to simplify storage. Send photos and estimated footage for review. Leftover electrical wire may remain useful product even when the original project no longer needs it, especially when its specifications and ownership are clear.

Are old cables worth money, or should I scrap them?

Old cables may have value as reusable product if their identity, condition and lengths support another use. Age alone does not tell us enough to make an offer. Send photos before stripping or cutting them, and disclose deterioration or damage. If the wire is not reusable, we will say so honestly; a scrap recycler may be the appropriate destination instead.

Can Romex or NM-B cable be reused?

Unused surplus NM-B cable can be submitted for review as reusable material. Previously installed cable requires a closer look at its condition, markings and remaining lengths; being called Romex does not establish that it is suitable for reuse. Photograph the jacket legend, packaging and any staple damage, cuts or other defects. Any future installation must be appropriate for the cable and applicable requirements.

Do you buy empty wooden wire reels?

Our buying focus is reusable electrical wire and cable, not empty wooden reels. Those large wooden spools are commonly called cable reels or wire reels. If your lot includes empty reels alongside wire, identify them separately and ask about them during the review. Do not assume an empty reel has purchase value or that its removal is included with a wire pickup.

Is copper-clad aluminum wire worth anything?

Copper-clad aluminum is different from solid copper or aluminum, so identify it accurately when submitting a lot. Send readable jacket markings, packaging information and photos of the cut ends, along with the intended cable type and footage. We need to review the actual product and its reusable condition before deciding whether it fits. Do not describe copper-clad aluminum as solid copper in your inventory.

What ownership paperwork do I need to sell wire?

Our policy is to buy reusable surplus product from businesses, verify the seller and proof of ownership, and keep a written record of each purchase. Ownership documents can include an invoice, purchase order, closeout paperwork or a company letter. Gather records that connect your business to the actual material, and explain any differences between the original purchase description and the lot now being sold.

What Texas rules apply to wire sales and seller records?

Texas Occupations Code Chapter 1956 regulates metal recycling entities buying regulated material such as copper and aluminum wire; Texas DPS runs the Texas Metals Program and its transaction database. Section 1956.002 includes an exception for purchases from public utilities or sellers selling regulated material in their ordinary course of business. Regulated buyers must retain seller identity, material descriptions and ownership proof or a signed statement for two years.

Are there special rules for utility copper or burned wire?

Yes. The 2025 legislation SB 1646 added rules for utility- and telecom-type copper wire bought from businesses: it must have been acquired in the ordinary course of business, with weight, business name and date recorded. Texas Penal Code Section 31.22 makes possession of certain copper or brass material without documentation an offense. Burned insulated wire needs documentation; documentation alone does not make it reusable.

Can I submit a wire lot located outside Texas?

You can send details of an out-of-state lot for review, but our stated pickup coverage is anywhere in Texas. Do not assume an out-of-state pickup or other transportation arrangement is available. Include the exact location, material list, photos and estimated footage, then ask about the proposed logistics before shipping anything or making travel plans. Houston drop-offs require an appointment and a call first.

How quickly can I get an offer and schedule pickup?

Timing depends on review of your lot and the arrangements discussed for it; we do not publish a fixed response or pickup time. Clear photos, an organized inventory and ownership records help avoid missing-information questions. Tell us about project deadlines or storage access limits when you contact us. We make a written offer and confirm payment method and timing in writing before pickup.

What happens when the wire is picked up or dropped off?

We pick up the material or receive your appointment drop-off and check the count against the written terms. Keep the agreed lot identifiable so reels, coils and cut lengths can be matched to the inventory. Let us know before the handoff if material has been used, removed or added since the offer. Any differences need to be addressed against the written terms.

Should I strip insulation or remove lugs before selling?

Do not strip reusable wire simply to prepare it for our review. We buy usable product rather than scrap metal, and intact insulation, jacket markings and appropriate terminations can help identify what you have. Used battery or power cables with lugs may be reusable as they are. Photograph the existing condition first and discuss the lot before making changes that could reduce its reuse potential.
