Wire & cable we buy

Sell XHHW-2 Wire: Surplus Copper and Aluminum Feeders

Sell XHHW-2 wire to Texas Wire Buyers as reusable electrical product, not scrap by weight. We buy surplus copper and aluminum feeder wire on full reels, partial reels and usable cut lengths. Send photos and footage details to start a written offer.

Sell XHHW-2 Wire Left Over From Feeder and Service Work

Unused feeder wire can remain after a service redesign, shorter-than-planned conduit run or cancelled equipment installation. We review new and unused full reels, partial reels, boxed coils and cut lengths, along with used cable that remains suitable for reuse. Distributor overstock and plant inventory can also be submitted for review.

Keep each size, conductor material and length separate when you prepare the lot. A continuous feeder length has different reuse possibilities than the same total footage divided into short pieces. Tell us what is on each reel rather than combining everything into one footage total.

Start with our wire offer form, or call 951-403-5738 with your list and photos. Include any uncertainty about footage or condition so we can review the lot accurately.

Identify Copper and AA-8000 Aluminum XHHW-2

XHHW-2 uses cross-linked polyethylene insulation and is rated for 90°C wet or dry locations. It is commonly used for commercial and industrial feeders and services. The printed legend establishes the actual conductor size, material, voltage rating and listed wire types; black insulation alone does not identify the product.

Aluminum XHHW-2 often uses AA-8000 series alloy conductors. Photograph the reel tag and a readable section of the insulation print rather than relying on an inventory description such as “aluminum feeder.” Include a cut-end photo to help distinguish conductor material and show its condition.

If you are comparing XHHW-2 aluminum wire buyers, provide the same details to each buyer: exact markings, individual lengths and condition. Our aluminum wire and cable page covers other aluminum products you may have in the same inventory.

Footage and Condition Matter for Surplus XHHW Wire

Surplus XHHW wire is usually worth more sold as usable product than sold as scrap by weight because the buyer is paying for wire that can be installed again. Its resale potential depends on identifiable markings, useful continuous lengths and sound insulation. Conductor metal alone does not establish a reusable-wire offer.

Tell us about scraped insulation, crushed sections, exposed ends, splices or weather exposure. For removed cable, explain how it was taken out and whether the lengths remain intact. We also review re-reeled cable, but need to understand what the replacement reel contains.

Do not strip or cut wire into smaller pieces before asking about reuse. Our guide to surplus wire value versus scrap price explains why keeping the product identifiable matters. If it is not reusable, we will say so; a scrap recycler may be the appropriate destination.

Prepare Reel Tags, Cut Ends and a Length List

You do not need a polished inventory spreadsheet to begin. A clear list paired with photos can establish what is available, which details are confirmed and which still need checking. Match each photo group to a reel number or another identifier you put on your list.

For each XHHW-2 item, send the following:

  • Conductor material and size, such as copper 4/0 AWG or aluminum 500 kcmil, copied from the markings.
  • Printed wire types, voltage rating and manufacturer information where readable.
  • Footage per reel or cut length, identifying estimates separately from known lengths.
  • Photos of the reel tag, insulation legend, cut ends and the whole lot.
  • Notes on packaging, damage, storage exposure and whether the wire is unused or removed.

Partial Reels and Large XHHW-2 Feeder Sizes

A partly used reel is still worth submitting. Record any beginning and ending footage marks you can read, and distinguish the original tag quantity from the amount remaining. Our guide to measuring wire left on a reel can help you prepare a footage estimate without presenting it as a confirmed count.

For large feeders such as 250, 350 or 500 kcmil, list each reel separately even when all the insulation looks identical. Note the number of continuous lengths and any matching conductor sets. The 250 to 1000 kcmil cable page covers additional large-conductor inventory.

Mixed-rated material needs its full legend recorded. If a reel carries USE-2 or RHW-2 markings as well as other designations, include all of them and review our USE-2 and RHW-2 wire information. Do not assume two reels have identical ratings because their sizes match.

Written XHHW-2 Offers and Texas Pickup

Send your list and photos by phone, the online form or email at industrial832@gmail.com. We review the material and make a written offer before pickup. Payment method and timing are also confirmed in writing before pickup, so you can review those terms before releasing the lot.

We arrange pickup anywhere in Texas. Describe the reel sizes, storage location and available access when you submit the material so pickup arrangements can account for the actual lot. Our Texas service area information explains the statewide pickup option.

You can also drop off by appointment at 6402 McGrew St, Houston, TX 77087, in southeast Houston near I-45 and Loop 610. Call 951-403-5738 first. At pickup or drop-off, we check the material count against the written terms.

Ownership Records for Your XHHW-2 Lot

We buy reusable surplus product from businesses, verify the seller and proof of ownership, and keep a written purchase record. Have an invoice, purchase order, closeout paperwork or company letter available; our Texas wire seller paperwork guide explains what to prepare.

Common questions

How much can I sell aluminum XHHW-2 wire for?

An offer depends on the actual product: conductor size, ratings, continuous footage, condition and packaging. A weight total alone does not describe a reusable feeder-wire lot. Send photos of the markings and reel tags with footage per reel, and identify estimates clearly. We review those details and provide a written offer before pickup rather than quoting a general aluminum scrap rate.

Is aluminum feeder wire worth scrapping?

Before scrapping identifiable XHHW-2, check whether it can be resold for reuse. Unused reels and sound, useful lengths usually have more value as electrical product than as metal by weight. Avoid stripping the insulation or cutting lengths down just to make handling easier. If the insulation is damaged or the wire is otherwise unsuitable for reuse, we will tell you honestly.

How many amps will 500 kcmil aluminum XHHW-2 carry?

There is no single ampacity to assume from the 500 kcmil size and XHHW-2 designation alone. Installation conditions, terminal temperature limits, ambient temperature and the number of current-carrying conductors affect allowable ampacity. For selling, report the exact markings rather than assigning an amperage to the reel. The 90°C insulation rating does not mean every installation can use a 90°C ampacity value.

Is THHN or XHHW more expensive when selling leftovers?

The insulation type alone does not determine which leftover lot receives the stronger offer. Copper versus aluminum, conductor size, available lengths, condition and usable quantity all matter. If you have both types, list them separately and photograph each legend. Do not label an unidentified reel as THHN or XHHW based only on appearance or what was originally ordered for the job.

Can I get money for old XHHW-2 cables removed from service?

Used cable may qualify when it remains in reusable condition and its identity and lengths can be established. Send clear photos of the insulation, cut ends and any damaged areas, plus an explanation of how it was removed. Keep intact lengths together during review. Age alone does not settle the question, but we cannot treat every removed feeder as suitable for resale.
